Buma/Stemra

These two affiliated organizations share administration: Buma = performance and Stemra = mechanical. Widely used by Dutch artists, they also collect Belgium and Luxembourg plays through reciprocal agreements.

What Buma/Stemra collects

Performance royalties are collected by a performing rights organization whenever a composition plays publicly, including on radio, television, a stream, or at a live venue.

In Netherlands, Buma/Stemra collects public performance (Buma), mechanicals (Stemra). Buma/Stemra was established in 1913 and reports approximately 30,000 members.

Joining Buma/Stemra

Joining cost: Free to join (first year free); €63.55/year from the second year. Royalties are distributed quarterly. You need an IPI number — the global identifier connecting a writer with their works, without which registrations cannot be matched to payments.
