GEMA

Gesellschaft für musikalische Aufführungs- und mechanische Vervielfältigungsrechte

Germany's PRO + mechanical society in one. Powerful — German law gives them broad collection authority. Famously locked horns with YouTube for years (resolved 2016). If you have plays in Germany, GEMA collects unless your home PRO has a reciprocal that routes the money back.

What GEMA collects

A performing rights organization collects performance royalties — money generated when a composition is played publicly, whether that's radio, television, a live venue, or a stream.

GEMA operates in Germany and collects public performance, mechanicals — Germany. It was founded in 1933 and reports roughly 85,000 members.

Joining GEMA

Joining cost: €100/year ongoing. Royalties are distributed quarterly. An IPI number is required — that's the global identifier that ties a writer to their works, and without one your registrations can't be matched to payments.

Register directly at GEMA.

Where Davincii fits

Davincii handles registration with GEMA as part of standard onboarding — you don't file here yourself. We register your compositions, keep the data matched, and collect what GEMA pays out.
