PRS for Music

The UK combines its PRO and mechanical licensing collective here, jointly administered with MCPS. This one organization collects both rights across UK/Ireland. Through US PRO reciprocal arrangements, US members receive UK-play royalties from ASCAP/BMI.

What PRS for Music collects

Performance royalties are collected by a performing rights organization whenever a composition plays publicly, including on radio, television, a stream, or at a live venue.

In United Kingdom, PRS for Music collects public performance, streaming mechanicals (UK + EU via reciprocal). PRS for Music was established in 1914 and reports approximately 175,000 members.

Joining PRS for Music

Joining cost: £100 one-time. Royalties are distributed quarterly + monthly digital. You need an IPI number — the global identifier connecting a writer with their works, without which registrations cannot be matched to payments.
