PRS for Music

The UK PRO + mechanical licensing collective combined (jointly administered with MCPS). One organization, two rights — they collect both sides for UK/Ireland. Reciprocal with US PROs so US members collect via ASCAP/BMI when their songs play in the UK.

What PRS for Music collects

A performing rights organization collects performance royalties — money generated when a composition is played publicly, whether that's radio, television, a live venue, or a stream.

PRS for Music operates in United Kingdom and collects public performance, streaming mechanicals (UK + EU via reciprocal). It was founded in 1914 and reports roughly 175,000 members.

Joining PRS for Music

Joining cost: £100 + £400 admin one-time (writer + publisher). Royalties are distributed quarterly + monthly digital. An IPI number is required — that's the global identifier that ties a writer to their works, and without one your registrations can't be matched to payments.
