JASRAC

Japan's leading PRO has a more demanding membership process than Western societies — a Japanese publisher partner is often needed. Because it has reciprocal agreements with every major US and EU society, foreign writers generally collect from their own PRO.

What JASRAC collects

Performance royalties are collected by a performing rights organization whenever a composition plays publicly, including on radio, television, a stream, or at a live venue.

In Japan, JASRAC collects public performance, mechanicals — Japan. JASRAC was established in 1939 and reports approximately 20,000 members.

Joining JASRAC

Joining cost: Free for the trust contract (optional membership tiers carry fees). Royalties are distributed quarterly. You need an IPI number — the global identifier connecting a writer with their works, without which registrations cannot be matched to payments.

Where Davincii fits

Davincii does not file directly with JASRAC. Because membership is generally resident-only or by invitation, we collect from this territory through reciprocal society relationships instead of making a direct registration.
