ASCAP

A member-owned, non-profit organization and one of the two leading US PROs. Membership is available to writers, publishers, or both. Payment arrives roughly 6 months after the performance quarter.

What ASCAP collects

Performance royalties are collected by a performing rights organization whenever a composition plays publicly, including on radio, television, a stream, or at a live venue.

In United States, ASCAP collects public performance. ASCAP was established in 1914 and reports approximately 950,000 members.

Joining ASCAP

Joining cost: Free. Royalties are distributed quarterly. You need an IPI number — the global identifier connecting a writer with their works, without which registrations cannot be matched to payments.
