One of the two main US PROs. Member-owned, non-profit. You can join as a writer, a publisher, or both. Pays out about 6 months after the performance quarter.

What ASCAP collects

A performing rights organization collects performance royalties — money generated when a composition is played publicly, whether that's radio, television, a live venue, or a stream.

ASCAP operates in United States and collects public performance. It was founded in 1914 and reports roughly 950,000 members.

Joining ASCAP

Joining cost: $50 one-time per role (writer + publisher). Royalties are distributed quarterly. An IPI number is required — that's the global identifier that ties a writer to their works, and without one your registrations can't be matched to payments.
