Adding co-writers and splits
Save your co-writers once on the Songwriters page, then pick them on any song and give each one a share. Splits must total exactly 100%.
You add co-writers in two steps. First you save each person once on the Songwriters page. Then, on any song, you click Add co-writer, pick them from the list and type their share. All the shares must add up to exactly 100%.
Save your co-writers
Co-writers are picked from a saved list, never typed in fresh on each song. That way their PRO and IPI number travel with them to every song they're on.
- Open Songwriters in the sidebar.
- Click Add songwriters.
- Fill in First name and Last name for each person. Email, PRO and IPI # are optional but recommended. They help societies match the writer to royalties.
- Click Add another songwriter if you wrote with several people, then click Save songwriters.
Middle names, alternate names and publisher details can be added after saving, using the edit button on the person's row. Deleting a songwriter removes them from your saved list. Songs already registered are not changed.
If you're in the middle of adding a song, the form has an Add a new songwriter link. It takes you to the Songwriters page and brings you back with your song as you left it.
Set the splits on a song
- On Add a Song, the first row under Songwriters is you.
- Click Add co-writer and pick a saved songwriter.
- Type their share in percent. You can use two decimals, such as 33.33.
- Repeat for each co-writer.
Your own share fills itself with whatever is left, so adding a co-writer at 50% leaves you at 50%. Once you type in your own share, it stops filling itself. The bar above the rows shows the total. It reads Fully allocated at exactly 100% and turns red if you go over.
The form won't submit if the total isn't 100%, if a co-writer row has no one picked, if someone is listed twice, or if a co-writer's share is 0%.
What we do with your co-writers
We only administer your share of each song. We have no say over a co-writer's share, and we register the splits you confirm are correct. Each co-writer's share stays theirs to collect. If you and your co-writers disagree on a split, settle it between you first.
Fixing splits later
Splits can be changed after you submit, with some limits once the song is filed. Changing a song after you submit it walks through it. For the rest of the form, see How to add a song, and for how shares are paid out, see Publisher share and writer share.
Common questions
Do my co-writers need a Davincii account?
No. You save their details on your Songwriters page. We administer only your share of each song, not theirs.
