Changing a song after you submit it
What you can change on a song at each stage: drafts, songs we haven't sent yet, and songs already filed or registered.
What you can change depends on where the song is. A draft can be changed freely. A submitted song that we haven't sent yet lets you edit its splits. Once a song is filed or registered, you use Edit song details on its page to change the title or the splits, and we file the update with the societies.
Drafts
A draft isn't filed anywhere, so everything is editable. In My Songs, click the song marked Draft to reopen it, make your changes, then Save as draft again or Submit for registration. A draft stays under the performing name it was started under.
Submitted, not yet sent
While a song is Preparing, open it from My Songs. In the Songwriters & Splits card, click Edit splits (or Add splits if none are on file), change the co-writers and shares, and click Save splits. The same rules as adding a song apply: co-writers come from your saved songwriters and the total must be exactly 100%.
Filed or registered
Once a song is with the societies, their copy is the one that counts, so changes go out as an update.
- Open the song from My Songs.
- In the Songwriters & Splits card, click Edit song details.
- Change the Song title or the Writer splits. To add a co-writer, click Add co-writer and pick a saved songwriter. To remove one, click the × on their row.
- Check that the total reads 100%, then click Save changes.
Your song shows the new details right away. The update is filed with your PRO and The MLC on the next scheduled run. If your PRO isn't ASCAP or BMI, the update goes to The MLC and our team corrects your PRO's records separately. The card then shows each society's progress, such as Update queued, Update sent and Update accepted, and you get a notification when each society confirms it.
There is no review step, so what you save is what we file. Make sure it matches your agreement with your co-writers.
When someone's share goes down
If a change lowers or removes another person's share, the societies need that person's signed authorization. The update stays on hold until we receive it. A short signed letter from them, emailed to info@davincii.co as a photo or scan, is fine. The edit box shows a sample of what the letter should say.
What you can't change here
Only the title and the splits can be revised from the portal. ISRCs, writer names, IPI numbers and the ISWC are held by the societies themselves. Email info@davincii.co and we'll handle those directly. The same goes for anything else you need to change on a song that hasn't been sent yet, and for taking a submitted song out of your catalog.
For how to set splits in the first place, see Adding co-writers and splits. For what the statuses mean, see What each song status means. The ISWC guide explains where that code comes from.
Common questions
Can I change the ISRC or ISWC myself?
No. ISRCs, writer names, IPI numbers and the ISWC are held by the societies. Email info@davincii.co and we handle those directly.
Why is my change on hold?
A change that lowers or removes someone's share waits for that person's signed authorization. Email it to info@davincii.co.

What each song status means
What Draft, Preparing, Filed, Under review, Registered, Action needed and Held mean on My Songs, and why each song has two statuses.
Why a song says Held
Held means another publisher already has the song registered, so we haven't filed it. Here is why, and what you can do.
