Songs we don't register
The few kinds of songs we leave out: covers of someone else's song, songs another publisher already holds, and your co-writers' shares.
We register your share of the songs you wrote, with the societies that pay songwriters worldwide: ASCAP or BMI and The MLC in the US, with the rest of the world reached through their partner societies. A few kinds of songs fall outside that, and we leave them out on purpose.
Covers of someone else's song
When you record a song someone else wrote, the composition is theirs, not yours. So we don't register covers, even when the recording is yours. The same goes for a flip or remake of someone else's song.
Songs another publisher already has registered
If another publisher already has a song registered, we don't file it. The song shows as Held. We never file over another publisher, because two claims on the same share make the society freeze payment for everyone. Why a song says Held explains what you see and what you can do.
Songs still under another deal
Under our Terms, a song that is already covered by a publishing or administration agreement with someone else shouldn't be submitted to us while that agreement is in effect. That includes deals with an administrator like Songtrust, or a traditional music publisher. You can keep honoring that deal, and you're free to submit the rest of your catalog. A record label deal is different: it covers the recording, not the song, so it doesn't stop you from adding your songs.
If you're leaving another administrator, see Switching to Davincii from another administrator.
Your co-writers' shares
We administer only your share of each song. When you add co-writers and their splits, we register your share. We have no say over theirs and don't collect it for them. Adding co-writers and splits covers how to enter them.
If you're not sure
If you're unsure whether a song belongs with us, write to info@davincii.co before you add it. Our guide to registering your song also explains how registration works across the societies.
Common questions
Do you register covers?
No. A cover of someone else's song is their composition, so it isn't ours to register.
Can I submit a song that's already with another publisher?
Not while that deal is in effect. Two claims on the same share make the society freeze payment.

How to add a song
Add a song from your dashboard: find it on Spotify or type it in, list the songwriters and their splits, and submit it for registration.
Adding co-writers and splits
Save your co-writers once on the Songwriters page, then pick them on any song and give each one a share. Splits must total exactly 100%.
